Cargo Barriers

Cop this: It is hard to be intelligent and have no cargo barrier at the same time.

Don't like that statement? Stiff!

I cannot understand the philosophy of fitting "looks good" gear - and not the life-saving gear.

My cargo barrier saved my life - and God it is good to type this right now - talk to someone who has had a rollover - they didn't plan it, expect it or think it would be as traumatic - ask them their opinion of a cargo barrier.

Fit the damn thing.

I tossed up fitting a Cargo barrier, but ended up with a 4point cage in the back of my Disco (knowing me, I'll probably do something dumb one day

)

Funny thing was the cage was much cheaper than what the cargo barrier was going to cost.

Added security & functionality.

Sorry but when I read this quote - I got a totally different meaning judging from your reaction/post

It is hard to be intelligent and have no cargo barrier at the same time.

The way I read it was - reversed for clarity - if you don't have a cargo barrier you are not being very inteligent

or

Reversed grammar

It's easy to be inteligent when you have a cargo barrier

Or am I missing something................................. again

do you have to get roll cages engineered to be legal or can you just fit what you like as long as it doesn't cause an accident?

All states regs are different.

Mine complies but for all intensive purposes it is a 'Cargo Barrier'

Thanks Ladas - now you have got me confused

Thinking like that probably means you have too much time on your hands - and I should not be making such big statements at one minute to midnight!!

You've been there, done that..... you know it is basically stupid to have all the camping gear loaded - and have no restraint system, whether a cargo barrier, cage or at least lashed down.

I've fitted and removed my cargo barrier 3 times. Does that make me 3 times as smart as others or do the removals cancel the fittings?

Currently it is not fitted as it needs modification to fit with the LPG manifold tank.

I agree, having a cargo barrier in a station wagon style vehicle should be mandatory, unless of course you don't carry ANYTHING in the back at all.

My father-in-law believes that the cargo blind (in his subaru) will restrain any luggage in the back so there is no need for a cargo barrier. No amount of discussion will convince him that in a crash, if the blind does manage to restain any vertical luggage movement, any heavy object will probably just flatten the rear seats anyway (as the seat backs are not designed as load restraints).
