Very nice, gives me something to aspire to.
HI All,
Few days off over Xmas gave me a chance to get stuck into my Ser 3 Ute for its next stage of Life.
Boxing day the "stuffed" 4.4lt came out ready for a Injected 3.5lt to go in.
Next the old alloy tray was removed and I bobtailed the Chassis 300mm, I cut the ends from the original bumper to weld back on the chassis level with the cross member to give the "original look" back.
Now im Commited, I will take the gearbox out and check it out, Strip the firewall and dismantle pannels for a re-spray. Once the re-spray is done I will Build a short steel tray drop the engine in and get her back on the road ................. Sounds easy huh ?!?!?
For anyone that is interested, I am selling the Alloy Tray, The "in Date" gas system and any bits of the 4.4 that I don't need.
Cheers and here's the pic's !
Hey Jezzaol if you need any steel cut for your tray or the chassis drop us a line as my factory is in Bayswater
P.S. Love the ute BTW
Adam
Hi any pics of the alloy tray?
Yep
I can take some more if you like.
Cheers
Looks like great project can't wait to see the finished product
Cheers Glenn
OK, Got to Love these public holidays !
Here is a few more pics of my bob-tail exercise.
I cut the bumper ends off the original buper and welded them in line with the cross member, Using some steel from the old tow bar I welded in some H/Duty recovery points into the chassis on the inside.
I then cut a section out of the "cut off piece" of chassis and caped the ends off keeping the original look with matching seem.
Cheers
OK, Bit more done this weekend !
I removed the Bull bar, driving lights and winch...............and decided that the FArm GAte had to go ! With it all removed and the lower fill pannel out there is an amazing amount of room between the chassis rails![]()
maybe I can sell the old bull bar.................... then thought its not worth much........ maybe I can use it for my new winch cradle, after all it got all the holes cut etc for the winch
Recess the main part of the winch cradle back into the chassis, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm then just to finish it off maybe I could cut out the tubular top wing sections and they could finish off the sides and give some more protection. OK enough measuring and thing time to cut the S*@t out of the old bar !
Now after all that cutting and re-cuting / gas axing / grinding and welding im quite sure it would have been easier to start from scratch but any way............... I cut out the cradle to slot back flush so its only about 10mm out from the end of the chassis rails welded the heavy mounts back on the outside of the cradle giving the ability to remove it all like a normall bull bar fianlly after most of the day got the cradle welded up and ready for the clean up work and extra bar work to be done, still need to weld in some infill plates and clean it all up ready to paint.
NOTE: Be aware that if you want to attemp this the winch can not fit cenral to the chassis (it wont fit) you have to off-set the fairlead to one side so it fits !, I measured and marked where the winch fitted and then made the cradle offset, which was a pain and it may look a bit odd, but would have hate to cut it all out even then realise the winch would'nt fit in
From here I have got my wrap around bars ready to weld togeather and on, the finished product will have one long tube that will be able to mount the spotties on and it will wrap around the end to protect the guards / fender just in front of the wheel (almost vertical aproach with 35's), I also think i will weld in a support tube that will be tapered from the bottom of the winch cradle to the bottom of the other tube near the outside edge of the bar !
If you can not picture that, hopfully before long I can have the finished product ready to show you all !
Cheers
