I've got Disco steelies on my camper. I painted them hammertone grey but the hammertone didn't work. They were matt black before that from the previous owner.

Well.......I bought a few cans over the weekend (got some paint too!!) and had an experiment.
Tried masking the rim of and painting the in interior of the wheel charcoal, but looked cr*p. Tried the whole wheel in charcoal....didn't look as good as the reversed rims LYH posted (I think the reversed rims carry this colour better)
So went with the trusty black. Tried Septones "Chip Proof Black Paint" (we'll see!!) which gives a textured finish which looks a little finer than the hammerone effect.
I will be deflating the other rims to paint as opposed to just masking, but here is a picture of the finished spare for your opinions:

It all depends on the look you want. Painting or powder coating range from about $50-$200 per wheel depending on finish, colour and repairs. There is a huge aount of colours on offer now.
i can't see his pic is it just me ?
"kilrust" satin black..nuthin fancy but does the job;)

Hard to see in this pic but its the only one i have with the rims looking clean, i painted them with rust guard flat black, looks good, seems fairly durable so far, just stripped them back to bare metal, put on a primer coat then several costs of the rust gaurd, they look great i think.
