Got it installed by an aircond place in Cairns that a mate worked for, the major components had been pre-ordered to go into a tourist coach operation that went broke. I offered them some cash, and my mate installed it cheap, total of about $1200. From memory, it is a 21000btu unit that operates from my standard compressor. It is very efficient and even on the warmest days in Cairns, we leave it on quarter strength, with the fan on two out of five, which means it takes very little power from the engine. The condenser sits on the roof above the driver/front pax, and air is forced up into it when moving forward, regardless of the two big thermo fans.
Inside it has a forward facing unit, mounted just below the roof lining, behind the rear pax seats, blowing cold air forward. Besides being a great air cond, it is also an excellent demister. I wouldn't know how much you'd pay now, but my mate reckons close to $4k, using your compressor!. He said look around the truck wreckers, sometimes trucks and machinery use this type of gear. My main reason for going this way was so I'd have room for a turbo......Another mate of mine runs an Isuzu County, and his standard aircond is ok - for the two people up front - just!......Now for a heater!!.

Ladas et al, any thoughts on the required cooling capacity to chill a defender properly? is 9kw sufficient?

I'm pretty sure someone on Outerlimits fitted a Red Dot unit in either a 110 or 'fender. Supposedly a lot more efficient than the original Oz fitted system.
The original 'fender system was made by AMC who are no longer in business. Just out of curiosities sake, anyone know who has made them for LRA in recent years ?

Since AMC shut down, all the Defenders with A/C are factory fitted.
Factory fit A/C has the extended nose.

..................costs lots........you might find one on a wrecked coach, or ask around....prices vary greatly.....
How heavy is that thing Gerry? And how high?
