    Tyre Blowout WARNING

    Dunlop Super Grippers 7.50 X 16

On the way back home from A weekend in Melbourne we almost got to Myrtleford when without warning the front drivers side tyre blew out. After a small amount of fighting the steering wheel we rolled to a stop off the road to find the tyre smoking and the vehicle sitting on the rim. Not a big problem. My wife and 1 yr old daughter got out and sought shelter from the sun whilst I went about changing the tyre. A big Thanks to the Gent in the old Landcruiser that stopped and gave me a hand. He was able to use his jack to get a bit more lift as mine had run out of lift. Not too many options when the defender is sitting on the rim. I was looking for some suitable blocks to drop the vehicle back down to get another bite to get the vehicle high enough when he came along at just the right time. However, tyre changed and off we go again. Our local Tyre Bloke in Bright who is sensational when it comes to all things tyres reckons that it used to be common for these tyres to peel inside and bite the tube but he thought that they had fixed the problem. Not sure how old my tyres are as they came with the vehicle. But If you a running Dunlop Super Grippers (which is an Oxy moron) be informed.

We also come up behind a Semi on the Hume and was about to overtake him when one of his wheels locked on the trailer causing thick tyre smoke to bellow out and cloud our vision ahead. I was in the left lane and could only think of large chunks of rubber peeling off towards us and slowed right down and off the highway into the median strip whilst another semi just ploughed through the smoke in the left lane as the other truck pulled off the road. Never a Dull moment on the Hume! Glad to be home safe and sound!

Dunlop Grippers biggest POS on the market. On our fleet Toyotas we were only getting 5000kms out of them and usually 5 or 6 punctures in that time. 50% dirt road work on a mine site.
Have heard nothing but bad stories about these tyres, road grippers are the same.
