    LR Defender service intervals

I have a 2005 Defender 110 Td5 County Station Wagon (bought new). It was serviced, including oil change, @ 5000 km. and again @ 10,000 km. The LR dealer tells me it should be serviced and have oil changed at 20,000 km and thence every 10,000 km.

Isn't this rather frequent (10,000 km / 6,250-mile intervals)? I'm keen to service as required and take the best possible care of the vehicle, but is this frequency really necessary? I wondered if the dealer is "looking for business".

I should mention that I'm in a hot and dusty region.

I run a 10K service interval on big red.

if Ive been running nicely and not giving her a hard time towing/off roading or running in summer I'll let it slide a little. The intervals showing on my docs/books suggest a 5K initial and then 15k intervals

Ours is 2006, and the interval quoted by stealers is 10,000. First service at 10,000 and every 10,000 thereafter. In Europe I believe the interval is 20,000.

Do it every 10 000km then, that is LRs recommendation.

When I bought mine the dealer said the service interval for the Td5 is 20,000km but they recommend 10,000km for the Defender because they tend to get worked harder than the Discos. Fair enough I thought.

The 30k/50k etc intermediate service is only really an engine oil change and doesn't cost much.

I don't know about that Tony, those shopping trips can get nasty in the car parks

I do mine every 5000k's eng oil and fuel filter, 20000 rest of the drive line. mostly because I want longevity.
