i'm bored ..wanna post something .........
Sooooo ....
Many years ago, I worked in the forestry industry, and I was always amazed at the capability of these logging "skidders"
I've been dragged in an old Toyo by its chassis rails in metre high mud up a mountain side by one of these ....
....I reckon they have got to be the ultimate offroad machine ...designed for work not for recreation...they don't just drive a track like we do ... but do it easily towing a few tons of logs
I've always wondered what it would be like entering a 4WD comp in one.... huge wheels, diff locks front and rear, hydraulic drive... centre swivel steer .... and a huge diesel engine
here's a few vids off youtube so you know what I'm talking about ....what do you guys reckon ??

Love the six wheeler with flotation tyres and accessory flotation tracks over the tandem drive tyres and chains on the front. Obviously North America somewhere going by the trees, snow, and mud. Looks like a clear felling operation and no care taken to protect the surface. I bet erosion if horrific afterwards when they get a lot of rain or the usual heavy winter snows thaw. I wonder how a swamp dozer would go in those conditions? Swampies usually have better flotation than rubber tyred machines.

I just left the forestry industry waynep,i always thought the same thing as youthere awsome machines they brought 2 new john deere skidders just before i left,i think they were 748H huge machines
They still get bogged easy in the teatree swamp but i love watching them get out of it with the articulation.I seen one of thhe drivers anialate this wreck in the bush with one of them towing a chopper roller
I recon the forwarder's are awsome to,be good for camping they have a huge tray on em

Ive often thought the same thing, I wonder if their rules and regs in the off road comps would cater for such machines.
A mate and I were talking one day of a Hilux body basically built onto one to at least make it look like a 4wd or maybe just the rock crawling buggie type.
Ive never seen a small enough one to fit down tight tracks without having to make new ones.
I get to work on them as the company I work for has 4 of them,I like testing the winches the best.Hook up to something that won't move and try to drive off to check the winch brake, you know it's holding when the front wheels lift off,the engine lugs down and the rear tyres bulge a heap.
Nice toys, even if they'd be a tad expensive. They don't bloody stop for much do they.
Have you ever seen a timber harvester like this ?
