    The best $20.00 ever spent.

Hi all, the best $20.00 I've spent on the Landy so far, is for a 'Heat gun', from an electronics Richard Smith person, and some heat shrink tube, of various sizes, which really finish off any wiring job, and makes it look fantastic, as we all solder our joins, don't we? Tee hee...

Just remember to put the heat-shrink on BEFORE making the final connection

That's a good cheap addition to the tools and will be handy.

I use a butane gas soldering iron - one of the best tools I own. It is so handy, not to mention a go anywhere tool. Radiator repair etc. This is the unit I have http://radum.com.au/shopping/product...b98b6675331d94

Experience is what prevents a person who has made the same mistake twice from admitting they have just done it a third time.

I think I must be up to about 30 times by now, the other is when the heatshrink size your using is only just big enough and you slide it down over the joint to quickly and it starts to shrink on the hot solder. Doh

..Or the heatshrink you have to hand really isn't big enough and you should go buy some more but you don't have time, so try it anyway; and so it jags a little, then friction heats it enough so it jags a lot, then you give up and gaff the joint with old fashioned leccy...

Too many times i've pulled a car stereo out and found wires twisted together .

As an electronics guy, i solder (and heatshrink) all my joins. But is this an "accepted" method (eg. when the auto elec looks at it next time )?. I don't understand why they use the crimp spade connectors.

I've done all of the above mistakes with heatshrink and i use it every day . What about when you shrink it down and its too big for the wire, and slides freely up and down the join ...

A good gas soldering iron is handy. Most have various heat gun nozzle attachments.
