    Darwin to Melbourne car frieght... **with** some gear

    Hi folks,

    I have been looking into shipping my Fender from Darwin to Melbourne at the end of a trip. And we will fly back while the car is shipped by road.

    There are plenty of options at different prices... however - most of them have the same issue - they only let you send a single spare - and ***no personal gear*** - in the car. No tools, no spares, no camping gear etc. Which is very very restrictive of course. Makes it hard to enjoy the trip up there !

    Does anyone know of an option to ship your car - WITH all the necessary gear/spares/tools/accessories etc ??

    The only way that I would suggest to safely ship your vehicle and gear would be to Containerize it,or to travel back down by train"The Ghan" and have the vehicle travel on the same train then you have the option of driving or Training it from Adelaide to Melbourne. or to ship your gear as seperate freight.

    I used coastline vehicle transport to get mine down from darwin, but as you say they have the same restrictions on contents. so many little rules, must be because of insurance.....

    More to do with weight. They are configured for maximum cars and weight. There are minor insurance issues, but my insurance company was quite happy to cover car and contents if being trucked, but freight company would not accept, so we drove.

    Pommie: Having had the trusty Disco moved from Bris to Melb a few years ago, I asked about the restrictions. The receptionist at the carrier said it was due to stuff might get pinched from the car while in transit...

    ...I forgot my bag of jumper leads were still under the drivers seat when it departed Bris, but they were still there when it arrived in Melb...as was the radio.

    I was looking to truck my ute from Brisbane to Cairns a few years ago and I couldn't find anyone that would take it with all our camping gear inside.
