    Rockhampton

Considering a job in Rockhampton Qld, looked at map so l know its mid Qld near coast aobut 7 hours north of Brisbane.

Anybody got any constructive comments about the town and surrounding vicinity regarding housing, shops, countryside.

Don't have any kids so schools aren't an issue.

Waiting on potential employer to confirm relocation package and they are talking about a pre-employment flight over to check it for partner and myself.

Also any decent reliable place for servicing the range rover in or near Rockhampton

Rockhampton itself is literally a hole - that is, it's surrounded by hills that block the wind. In summer it gets stinking hot. In heavy rain it floods. It's not a bad place to live apart from the climate, not the most thrilling either. Shopping (for the other 1/2) is woeful compared to even a place like Toowoomba (and best you don't speak to my wife about shopping in Toowoomba).

If you can afford the higher land value/rent and the commute, the coast 30 minutes away is one of the nicest place in Queensland. Yeppoon/Emu park area (Emu Park is a little more down market than Yeppoon these days) has a lovely climate, sea on your doorstep and north of Yeppoon there's a recreational area that's very good for off-roading (did my first 4wding there).

I don't know the Perth area so hard to compare. As I say, the worst bit is the stinking summer weather.

But if you're into doing a bit of driving and camping at the end of the day, there are a lot of destinations within a reasonable drive. And commuting in from the coast is the best option if you can afford it.

G'day All, One of my daughters lives on the Northern side of Rocky, I have been there many times, but I have to agree with the previous 2 posts about the bloody stifling heat, can't say anything about the shopping as I'm no shopper unless you sell/wreck Land Rovers, ex-army stuff or firearms LOL, I personally could not live there unless I had a huge A/Cond shed and could afford the power to run it just my tuppence worth cheers Dennis
PS and I cannot compare it to Perth either as I've not been there.
PPS They say if you go up to the lookout just above the town and get in the right location the street lighting layout at night spells HELL

I go there once or twice a year for uni for a week or so and must say that it is dead if you like partying. There are only two happenning pubs and one club and they are only frequented at certain times. (I am 32 so not a huge partyr anymore anyway but it still surprises me how dead the night life is).

It is very quite so you have to make your own fun. The rest has been mentioned and the 4wding and beaches north of Rocky are very nice. On the other hand if you open a motel I'm sure it will be full most of the year. Just try getting a room on short notice.
