A big two page write up on the new Defender in Saturdays West Australian.

Yep - and in the latest Wheels magazine they say that the Ford Territory is soon to get a V6 Diesel - from the Landrover D3.
    Cheers .........

    That is interesting?
Previously Ford AU said no, too expensive.

The stuck a V6 Diesel in a Territory last year.
It came from an S-Type Jaguar diesel that had been touring the country. The biggest difference being the Jaguar version has twin turbo's and not as strong as the Land Rover one.

    Cheers,

I may be wrong (the missus reckons I am a lot), but I thought the Discovery V6 diesel was the Jag one modified (which was modified Peugeot motor anyway)

The actual wording of the article (Page 14 of Wheels December edition) -

"Territory should get turbo diesel power by '09. It's likely Ford will adopt a version of the 2.7 litre mill currently used by Jag and Landrover".

A picture of the engine is shown with "Jaguar" clearly shown on the top plastic cover.

I wonder who retains ownership of this engine if / when Jag and Landrover are sold off by Ford.
    Cheers .........

Ford and PSA (Peugeot & Citroen) developed the engine together so it would remain theirs. Ford want to continue supplying engines after the sale of LR and I would think this would be part of the agreement.

It is, and I've driven it in twin turbo form in the Jag and it was stunning, and drove it in the D3 and was underwhelmed.

I guess that it is all relative, but I LOVE my TDV6.

Imagine the difference in the weight of the relative vehicles would be a factor? The interesting thing, is that on first try the D3 you are thinking more about the lag etc. However, when driving the D3 regularly, it is an extremely drivable and effortless engine once you get the hang of how to drive it. Having moved from a V8 caprice to a D3, I find driving the diesel actually enjoyable Go figure. I think it is the effortlessness that does it for me.

Imagine the driveline from a D3 would be a dream in a Territory.
