Sounds to me like he has finally worked out that no one wants him as PM. He sure did ruin it for Johnny.

    According to the Herald Article
Australia's longest serving treasurer, who had long dreamed of being prime minister, made the shock announcement in Melbourne today, saying he would stay on in parliament for now and then move on.
Don't see him staying around for long

Well, we are stuck with Kev Rudd for now, regardless of what happened, and what personal feeling toward these people are, you cant say that Costello wasnt a good treasurer.

As far as bean counters go, he did a good job, now it's up to the workers party to distribute the saved money to the right areas and to try and keep interest rates down, pretty much all the rest will be run of the mill politics.

It still scares me about all the union leaders/lawyers/henchmen that are now part of the party in power as well as a Pop star that is also an extremist in his veiws but Im hoping that now they have the power they will mellow and see that not everything they want can be done straight away.

It was a hard election for anyone to work out who to vote for as there was way too much negative on both sides of the coin but because of that, I dont think any vote was a wrong one and that labour will do the best job they can and im sure they do have the best intentions for the country in mind rather than just personal wants and opinions.

I sort of agree but Mr Howard should never had said he was going to step aside for Mr costello. In true political fashion he should have said he was going to serve full term then at some latter stage stepped down.

The Libs should have listened to the people 18 months ago.

    Cheers,
