We are home. 1500km round trip and almost no sleep.
And the shame. A Range Rover towed by a Cruiser. And almost a Defender having to be towed by the same cruiser
.
The one good thing is that when you are trying to make it to your destination and it is almost dawn the death rattles do keep you awake.
I have set a new record for breakages with almost no dirt driving.
Rear brake caliper on the defender decided to try and eject. Jackhammer on the back also managed to remove fillings and bolts from all over the place.
BlkNight you are a master. His quick look over the truck to make it ok to get home took half a day on the Fender and half a day on the Rangie. I now have the rear bearings tightened but needing replacing. New bolts through the rear drive shaft but not up to spec and needing to be replaced. Also have new bolts holding the rear brakes in.
My front hockey stick (The arm the hold the diff in position is bent)
Steve has a new front disk rotor, wheel studs and wheel nuts. he has even personalized the front passenger panel and needs a new spare.
Thanks Disco 300TDI for coming out waiting the the car while we took the kids into town to feed them and try to locate a trailer. Also thanks with getting enough wheel nuts on to limp the car toward Wodonga.

I have come to the conclusion that the wife is a good luck charm as things are never to bad when she comes along.
The problem was the bolts I was sold to replace the old once about a year ago. They were not rated to the job as I had been told. I also didn't lock tight them into place so they had worked loose and were stripping out due to the power being put out. We also found the stake nut in the rear passenger side bearings had been re used so many times it was broken and not doing it's job. That's why that one was converted to locking nuts. Now I just have to get the bearing replaced as a precaution and get rid of the stake nuts so it's easy to do on the side of the road if I ever have to. The drive line bolts are still not up to scratch but at least they were tight and could do the job of getting home. I think the brake caliper bolts worked loose due to the vibrations.
Steve now knows why you should always check your wheel nuts as that was what caused his issue. The nuts had worked loose stripped the threads and then ripped through the wheel. Leaving him to grind to a holt around a bend on the highway. He also ground 2-3cm of the disk as he hit the brakes first getting a flat spot so it then didn't spin once the brakes were released.
It's a good lesson on being cautious when getting parts from non Landy places. On Sunday the auto shops still tried to tell me the current bolts were correctly rated for the job while Dave told me they are not and to replace them ASAP.
I set a new record to edd.

Hi Edd
Was it a chinaman or a black cat you upset in your past???It seems to be an ongoing issue.

It's a Family tradition. I grew up with weird and wonderful things happening on long trips. Relos in the UK used to think we were mad for the distances we would travel and the fact that we could be up to a week late. My woes were bad bolts and not checking them so as much my fault as the bits that failed.
Following my Brother once the Rangie was on the trailer was scary at times. His cruiser would get the wobbles and a couple of times times I thought he had lost it and was going bush. In the morning we could see that the trailer was really over loaded though.
Sounds like you had a trying time, at least you got home in the end, sounds like a weekend on the tools is needed, were the bolts on the tailshaft secured with ny-lok nuts because these shouldnt work loose, theres alot to be said for lock wiring ala aircraft style, Steve your lucky things werent worse for you then they were, I could see a roll over with a scenario like that, glad your both safe and home.
They were. They were high tensile bolts you get in those blister packs. This time around them temp ones are the same bolts with standard nuts and spring washers. We also used lock tite this time. I didn't go anywhere today so tomorrow I will be chasing up the bolts Dave (BlkNight) told me should be used so this is never an issue again. He also suggested that the amount of power my rig is putting out is a contributing factor.
