    Jap IDI diesel engines.

Changed the oil in the Kubota today, as well as the trans/hydro (yeh, all 30 litres) and have to say that Japanese IDI engines are FILLLLTHY!

What is the significant difference between Euro and Jap diesels that makes Japs so much more inherently dirty/prone to glazing, soot etc?

Does using an inline injector pump make a difference to rotary?

But what engineering differences are there that make European diesel engines cleaner than Japanese diesel engines?

Take a 1HD-T and a Tdi, both say 1995. Is the 1HD-T dirtier because of the lower combustion chamber temperatures and single stage injection (incomplete combustion), lower injection pressures and EGR?

Japan has very high emission standards and older diesel vehicles are being required to be fitted with aftermarket emissions equipment in many urban prefectures. Is this why 300Tdi Discos are being expatriated because owners don't want to be faced with fitting particulate filters and better CCV systems?

Is the key with older IDI engines to keep them working hard in order to keep the combustion temperatures up to prevent glazing and incomplete combustion of diesel? By idling them aren't we lowering the combustion temperature to such as extent that incomplete combustion can occur? Is there a correlation between time spent idling and the amount of soot that ends up in the sump?

Were do toyota sell 90% of cruiser's?Oz and the middle east. They don't sell them in Europe so they don't have to meet the polution standards.LR hasn't designed, made, bought 6 or 7 engines in the time toyota has had the 4.2 six for nothing. That is way toyota is such a big company, there profits go into the bank instead of making new engines. As far as burning fuel, modern LR,VW,BMW,MERC engines run very very high inlet pressures in the injectors so that the fuel molicules break down and atomize into the air so it burns completely and without soot.Alot off Jap engines are still indirect injection, something the europe makers stopped doing 20 years ago. Perhaps not relevant to this thread, but I'm impressed with how clean the oil is in the TD5, no doubt the centrifugal filter does a good job in removing all the big bits of soot and particulate matter.

I recall an MQ Patroooooooooool I had yonks ago. You could change the oil and filter then drive around the block. On checking it was back to black.
