Heading of to spend some R & R in the NSW/Victorian high country just after Xmas this year. Can anyone recommend any camping spots, must see places. I expect there's probably lots and lots, just tring to make the most of it without being rushed at the same time. Plan to camp in an area with the camper trailer for a day or two, explore that area, then move to another spot and so on.

Yes.. VERY BIG
you cant cross it in a day
Hmm, I'm not sure that I should be encouraging you, as the place is getting crowded already.
There are two camping areas on the Thredbo Rd (Thredbo Diggings & Ngarigo 'sp). They are right on the Threbo River and give you a wonderful, refreshing, bathe in the River (even in Jan. due to the snow melt). You do, however, have to pay park-entry fees to get to them.
Sawpit Ck, on the Perisher Rd is another option. I think that this is a commercial operation and so you will probably have to pay camping fees as well as the entry fees. There is a site on the other side of the rd (near a water tower), but it's not very attractive (much better in winter).
There is another site off the Perisher Rd (Island Bend), which IIRC was a village during the construction of the Snowy Mtns scheme. The buildings have been removed, but there a heaps of great, flat sites remaining. Park entry fees apply here, as well.
When travelling in VIC high country, we've always used tents and so am unsure of how a camper trailer would go. The plus-side is no park-entry fees. Cowombat Flat might be an option, but there are NO facilities. We've also camped by the Snowy River east of these Flats.
There are lots of other camping spots in Kosciuszko NP, where there aren't any camping fees, but no facilities either.

Hi guys and gals
I have been away so couldn't reply until now. We'll be leaving from Canberra so probably looking around the NSW/Victorian border area I guess you can call it Northeastern area. Possibly down as far as Dartmouth Omeo etc.

A suggestion, as you live in Queanbeyan, travel down the Kings Hwy, towards Batemans Bay, head down to Moruya and out to Bendethra for some good camping, then you can head up the Dampier fire trail to other camping spots and end up at Cooma or back down the coast around Eden, a good start to your trip. Alternatively I was going to suggest Misty Mountain fire trail thru to Araleun road and up to Dry Creek 4wd camping area, which would be easy enough with a trailer. But the Dry Creek fire trail up to Mericumbene fire trail and along to Bendethra fire trail might be taxing on your trailer. Suppose you could go thru to Dry Creek and then back to Moruya along the Araluen road and turn at Womban rd and link up to Little Sugarloaf road, which becomes Bendethra fire trail and takes you into Bendethra. Would pay you to get the South Coast Forests Map from State Forests, PM or email me if you want more info, Regards Frank.
