What always helps me is to keep the steering wheel moving while watching the trailer in the mirror. This way you generally don't have to react as such to any sudden movements, but simply "wiggle" (and yes that is the technical name for it:D) the trailer along nicely.

Well guys (and gals) I have to admit that my wife is tops at reversing trailers. Any kind as long as she can see them. She grew up on a farm growing oranges, lemons etc and drove the tractor coupled to a farm trailer for the fruit. SO, she gets to launch and recover the boat while I look after the heavy jobs like winching boat onto trailer and launching etc. She does a top job getting trailer in right position first go.
Don't you have a reverse camera in the D3 HSE Stevo?
A mate of mine who is a truckie by trade claims its easier to reverse B double then a box trailer I went ha :eek:Quote:

When I was 13, just before my navy bred grandfather died he gave me his keys and told me to reverse the jeep and trailer to load up rubbish on his farm.
He gave me 2 instructions they were placement of hands on the wheel and if I did any damage to anything he'd shoot me. It was the first time I had reversed a trailer and thank god I got it right because he had one hell of a temper. I thought he probably would shoot me if I stuffed up as I was 10 when he put a rifle in my hands and said if I miss the can he'd boot me up the bottom and so he did when I missed the can on more then one occasion.
But, these days..... I can't reverse a trailer to save my life.... If only he was still around hahaha.
im no expert......and may take a few attempts to back a trailer exactly where i want it.......
but then again.....i only use trailers a few times a year......
the longer the draw bar on the trailer......the easier it is to reverse as it doesnt make sharp turns so you have time
to correct......
to reverse a trailer....the simplest instructions ive been given were.......
turn towards the mirror you can see the trailer in.......
ie....if you can see it in the left hand mirror......then turn the wheel to the left.....
and vice versa......
and reverse very very very slowly.......you dont do as much damage without heaps of momentum......
I know how you feel. A trip to the tip with a borrowed trailer used to be stressful as hell, it is a place where a man needs to feel like man. I have improved with the practice since I have bought the camper trailer and done a couple of long trips but I still feel awkward at times. However the tip is not stressful anymore.
But I will confess I just had some panel work done because I stopped watching the trailer for a moment cause I thought a semi was about to run into me. Should have hit the brake too.:blush:
Putting in the insurance claim I found they would not accept the claim unless i could givem them a postcode, which was a problem because I was nowhere near a town!
