    Extra Seating for 110's

    Hi there.
Anyone know if there is an approved rear seat that can be fitted to a Defender? 'Rear' would equal the cargo space.

    Cheers,
    Dags

    Hi Dags,

You can get seats in the cargo area - however the installation would generally need to be inspected/ checked for compliance to a VSB / engineer's certificate (whatever applies for where you live) to be legal.

We got 2 side-facing bench seats put in the back of the Defender, however these aren't the standard Land rover seats (well, they aren't like what we had in the County). Downside is they're chunkier and don't fold up as neatly, but the upside is they're pretty comfy. Cost was a bit, but it was easier and quicker than mucking around trying to source all the bits.

If you're after a forward facing seat, then I'm afraid I'm no help.

I installed two buckets seats from a Holden rodeo forward facing. Had the vehicle approved as a Tourist bus in NSW and QLD ( Long story) Australia supposedly has uniform rules now. Went and saw a local certifying engineer in NSW told him what I wanted to do. Very simple metal fabrication in a Defender. As a guide I used a C.A.M.S. spec manual for roll cages as the minimum for bolt sizes and mounting plates wich exceeded the requirements.
If you want more info I can give you my phone no.

    Cheers

I have just put a second row front facing seat in a SWB Series III. I used a third row seat out of a Patrol and had it certified by an Approved Person in QLD. It cost $200 for the seat, around $20 for steel and bolts, and $550 for trhe Engineer.

    Cheers, Mick.

I recently fitted rear County bench seats and seatbelts into my 95 defender taking the capacity from 5 to 9.

I had the modification complianced. Around $150 I recall. Fellow comes to your house and was very reasonable, not a nazi. He told me how he wanted the mounts plated before I did it to ensure they would comply when he inspected it.

I took the modification details to QT who reissued a rego sticker classing the vehicle as a 9 seat omnibus.

I then got a letter from my CTP insurer asking for a higher premium. Somthing like an extra $15 I recall

I suppose I can drive in the T3 lanes on the M1 now ? Dunno, rarely use the freeway

dont think so - rear tub has a step in it for the fitting of seats and lots of bracing under the tub
