    No more Salisburys..

I see from the current 4x4 Australia issue that the new 130s will have the 110 style P38 rear axles... "welded & forged" no less.

I wonder if there will be any differences other than sans ABS/traction control?

Anyway, the new Defenders got a good right up.

While on the topic, I've heard the door skins on the new ones are steel not alloy. Can anyone confirm?

    Regards
    Max P

Best we make backwards steps in vehicle design - then we will sell more vehicles! OR GO OUT OF BUSINESS!!

I won't be buying a Defender with P38a diffs and steel door skins.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Im not trying to start anything but why not?

Yes Sals are strong but they are also HUGE and this is the biggest down fall for the fender (when off road) other than the lack of comfort and safety.

Steel door skins will add a small amount of extra side impact protection and the interior and seating seems to be fairly sorted from what Ive seen in the pics.

Yes they are huge but rarely let you down, the p38a diffs on the Defender Xtreme are already letting people down. A recent Simpson Desert trip - failures in Defender front p38a diffs on 2 separate vehicles.

And will add another large area of panels that already rust. - Birmabrite - the main reason that there are so many early Land Rovers around today. Steel the reason there are very few if any late 1950s or 1960s Land Cruisers around today.

Just my opinion - but I probably wouldn't buy a new Defender in any case!

    Yes, steel.

    Why ?
    For "dent resistance" & "stiffness".

The new doors don't bow out at speed like the old ones did (I hadn't noticed a problem....) & therefore create less windnoise.

P38 style rear end has been in the 130 since they changed the 110, when was it ? '03 ?.

Search for the threads on here with Defender/P38 style rear end problems......as Tusker can attest, there's been one or two......

BTW, a little work and a Sals has the same clearance (or near enough) as a Rover style diff with out any strength issues
