A Land Tata or a Mahindra Rover??????![]()
Filed under: Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover
Ford's year-end sales event isn't limited to your local dealership, as news came down the wires today that the final bids for Jaguar and Land Rover have been submitted by India's Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and One Equity Partners, a private equity firm. The Economic Times and Hindustan Times are both citing separate figures, with the former reporting the bid between $1.5 and $2b, while the latter pumps up the both figures to $1.7 and $2.2b. But what's $200 million between friends, right?
Regardless, those numbers are somewhat in line with what Merrill Lynch analysts predicted the two automakers would fetch in the market, and according to sources close to the transaction, Ford will be considering the bids later next week.

Exactly right, which means there will be next to no chance of a post 2010 defender being imported here. When you have a market the size of india and asia why would you stuff about trying to meet emissions in a market in Australia which is bugger all demand compared to the above.
They won't need to change them, so we could get new parts for the defender at half their current price for the next 50 years.
Hmmm let me see, I'll need two tie rod ends, a uni joint and a TDV6 with an adaptor plate.![]()
Have a look at their website:
Tata Motors - HomePage
Here's a couple of quotes:
Tata Motors Limited is India’s largest automobile company, with revenues of Rs. 24,000 crores (USD 5.5 billion) in 2005-06. It is the leader by far in commercial vehicles in each segment, and the second largest in the passenger vehicles market with winning products in the compact, midsize car and utility vehicle segments. The company is the world’s fifth largest medium and heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer
Tata Motors' vehicles meet international emission norms like Euro III standards for Passenger cars and Euro II standards for Light Commercial Vehicles including pick up vans. European standards for frontal and side safety impact are also successfully met with for passenger cars. It has a series of quality systems in place including ISO accreditation from Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI).
Might be the best thing that's happened since the 110 was introduced in the early eighties!!!!! All they then have to do is merge with Santana and adopt their improvements - wider back door and rear cargo space, flat floor under the seats instead of the seat box so suspension seats can be fitted, IVECO engine, then put a Salisbury in the front and add roll-over protection (as opposed to the current rollover writeoff), NOW THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING!
