At Euclid we had some wonderful photos of what not to do near a mining truck. One was of a Datsun 1600 ute, about 8" thick and 40' long, like one of those export cars ex a wrecking yard. Another was Toyota FJ serieswith dropside body that had been parked in the shade behind an R85 to keep it cool while the crew were taking their crib. The dumpie driver finished first and didn't see the Toyo parked beneath and behind his mount, fired up and backed up to rejoin the haul road. Toyota jam.

We could add another line to your signature:

In a diesel electric locomotive the Toyota is your crumple zone!

Im guessing its an iron ore train from the Pilbra.

The loco is painted in Hammersley Iron livery, so you're right there Andy. I'd also say that you're right in that the cruiser would have been flat out (not fast enough) in reverse before the loco finally caught him. Anything other than this (unless the train was only travelling very slowly) and you wouldn't have seen the Toyota in these photos.

I used to drive "High rails" (Toyota's with railway wheels) on a BHP Iron Ore site. Remember reversing out from the Yandi 2 crushing plant one night with about 10 people in a "High Rail" Toyota Troopy (was too lazy to get off the rails and turn around). There had been a major tropical storm and the roads were cut, and the rail was the only way in & out of the site at the time. About half way out, I suddenly saw a light in the rear vision mirror and the heart very quickly went into the mouth. About the same time that I started to slow down (you can't slam on the brakes quickly in one of these things), we realized that someone in the back had turned on the light above the back doors of the Troopy.
    Cheers .........

Thats why all new Toyota's have "Do not loose shunt" stamped on the chassis rails.

I'd hate to think what would have happened if that train had hit a disco instead.
