It's possible that the doors were blown off. That happened at the one near me, most of the containers looked relatively intact but the doors had been blown open, or off completely. One was found over a km away.
From the aerial shots it looked as though all the containers were warped.
This reminds me of a situation in Hawaii. A workmate & I had no trouble gaining entry to the army base so that we could visit the gap that the Japanese bombers/fighters came through to bomb Pearl Harbor (correct spelling for Yanks).
We saw that the road continued on and decided to follow it. We became a little unsettled as we started to pass by this mass of ammunition bunkers , but decided to press on.
When we got to the exit gate, the guard was seriously disturbed at what we had done, but our official (we were working for CSIRO) passports and Aussie accents got us through.
Luckily, it was 1988 & NOT post 911.![]()
