Im thinking that whilst your at it, practice the tight rope walk, or if your really keen, buy a uni-cycle and practice on that...
I suppose if one of them got cut in half some one would be suing the snatch strap or winch cable manufacturer for lack of proper instructions??????

Expletives apart I think all the partcipants and organisers need a kick up the %^&*
With number of people there and the way that logs are on the slope I assume that it is one of the worst (dis)organised event ever from the safety perspective.
Lets get something straight, a winch blanket will NOT stop a steel winch wire from lashing around when a steel cable breaks. It is a VISUAL indication of a winching operation taking place.
Having seen a steel cable penetrate the full width (12"/300mm) of a hard wood railway sleeper and stick out the other side by 24"/600mm, winching operations should be done in a SAFETY ZONE. i.e. all non essential people should be well away from the operation, something like a circle of radius the max length of cable being used.
Even if a synthetic winch cable is being used people should still keep well away.

Brendan

ROTFLMAO
You've got to be kidding, who in their right mind would do that.
The first time my 12yo daughter saw a toyo being winched she knew to stand well back without anyone telling her.
It's just plain common sense, isn't it????
