Hello to all of you and a question!

I posted this in the Introductions forum, but thought it prudent to try here in the general forum also.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Good morning to all of you,

The old man an I have embarked on the journey of restoring our dream SWB Series Land Rover. We owned a Twin Cab Defender for several years and it was sad to see her go.

We have currently have 2x IIAs and one bitzer with a 202 conversion, with the view to take the best of all three into one vehicle (based around the bitser) - code name "Monica" (The first vehicle we picked up had Monica scratched into the paint on the rear!). We are looking to use the Bitser as a base to work from, it runs fine but has no brakes and the front drive shaft is missing etc... nothing too complicated (it's a land rover after all!)

My question to you is this and this may be better directed in the General Forum:

We are kinda stuck on the roadworthy path with the chassis of the bitser. Is it feasible to take one of the chassis' from the vehicles and repair and prepare it sufficiently to then replace the one in the bitser? My knowledge of metal repair is non existent, so I am wondering if this idea is worthwhile proceeding with and what it would involve. I've been hunting around for months looking for a good condition chassis, but have learned that they are as rare as hens teeth.

I look forward to your suggestions and replies.

If you need to keep that chassis number cut the rear hanger off the chassis and get it rewelded onto a better chassis . then you don't need to change rego's and other stuff.

Unfortunately it's not registered currently, such is the reason of needing to have a decent chassis for the roadworthy check.

Hi there, we're on the Southside of Brisbane

The bitser is currently at our Slacks Creek Mech, and the others are at Carbrook.

    G'day Chris

They are all Series 2a's ??? and are they all LWB or SWB's, which has the best chassis, which do you want to do up and register?? how bad is the chassis of the one that you want to register??? as there are repair sections that you can buy and weld on,

    cheers

    Thanks for your reply...

    They are all SWB

We have 2 IIas, and then the Bitzer which has (I believe) a Series I chassis, and bits of a Series 3 body and a 202 conversion.

The plan being to use the chassis, running gear and engine of the Series 3, and use the body components of the series IIs, as they are in better nick. We have taken the Series 3 to our Mech to see what needs to be done to get a roadworthy, and one point they mentioned was the chassis wouldnt pass roadworth. It was my dad that spoke with them, so I'm not 100% clear on the other things that needed to be done, but the chassis was the main sticking point.

I guess it comeas down to how bad the chassis is, and what can be repaired.
