My early car buying was dominated by my model aeroplanes which kept getting bigger. For a little while it was dominated by fun driving, now it's dominated by kids and fun.
I pride myself that since middle 99 I have bought 3 English and 2 German cars. I can't see me ever owning asian again. I made good in the end.![]()

Is this some cruel trick to figure out how old we are?
In order of purchase:
LJ Torana - 1300cc, cost me $1300 then a week later another $1300 to replace the engine. My first car.
1978 Datsun 200B - Great car.
1980 Toyota Carona wagon - Holden start fire 4 engine. Crap car!
1969 HT Kingswood, 186S 4 spd. Should never have sold it
XE Falcon 3.3l - OK car but prone to over heating.
Ford telstar - Another crap car prone to over heating. Had an intermittent miss in it for the 4 years I had it. No one could fix it.
EA Falcon - OK car but prone to over heating.
EB Futura - You'd have thought I'd learned my lesson with the other 3. What is it with Ford, always over heating.
1996 Subaru liberty RX 2.5 AWD - Fantastic car. Could corner like it was on rails....rain, hail or shine!
2002 Subaru Forester X - Great car. Mrs and the kids are slowly wrecking it
2005 Subaru Liberty 2.5i - Great car but lacked the character of the RX.
2007 Discovery SE - Best car I've ever had.
Land Rover 1969 2A 109 Hard Top
Land Rover 1960 SII 109 Tray
Land Rover 1976 SIII 109 Hard Top
Land Rover 1997 110 Defender SW
Range Rover 1988 HiLine (my wife's car, the only way I could get one was to buy her one)
Sand in the radiator!
The sand came from the engine block
Our EBII strated overheating when it was 5 years old.
Took it to a radiator guy who asked if the radiator had been removed and flushed. I said no and he remarked, "Therefore the bottom of the radiator will be full of casting sand". And yes it was. A simple flush and no more problems :-)
The AUIII never even gets half way on the scale, even when towing the caravan at 100kph in 30 degree heat.![]()
If I include all cars I have had the total is 63 but the ones that were running and licenced was about 50
I got a letter from the licencing department asking me if I was a car yard
I have been married for 5 years now and in that time I have had 12 cars
When I bought my current Disco my wife said if I buy another car that she would walk out and take my son with her![]()
And then Landrover bring out the new defender!!!!
Oh what to do
