Was looking at GQ's for my first 4x4, drove a few, mate said try a Rangie, V8 and all. Bought the second one i test drove, 83 2door off a school teacher $4k, had about $16k in reciepts with it.
then bought another one 82 4 door, 336 holden stroker, t400 etc..$3k (now with 6.5 chev diesel in it)
then a D1 $7k(motor had 30,000k on it)
and a county, but lets not talk about that one.
What i'm saying is the reason why is because they are cheap for what you get.![]()
Started with a Series 2 GU Patrol which I bought new and placed all the bells and whistles on it however the bloke I use to go out with had a RR a mid 80's one it was a buget build up 2 inch lift remold muddies and this thing did every thing my patrol did but better
besides that I had a taste for UK cars dad owning a number of Jags and the Freelander that took me to the other side of Australia effertlessly while reving at 4500RPM while doing 110KM
I love all LR but I bought the disco for its size and style in a perfect world I would have two a Disco and hybrid 100 inch or bob tail 110I will aventually

Because I'm a pom and like to support the queens economy.
Because P38arover has informed me I'm a Range Rover snob
Because I like being covered in oil
Because I like being electrocuted by bodgey Lucas components
Because showing up to pony club and various ODE in a ZH Fairlane was not the in thing to do anymore?
Because a stock Landy with decent treads can perform as well as any station wagon (with a 5 inch lift) to come out of the Pacific Island region
Because owning a Landy doesn't leave as many scars as self fladulation, the scars are mental
Because I can
Got sick of crowded camping sites when we used to go in a Civic so we agreed to get something that can get to less crowded campgrounds.
Like someone else said, not sure why it had to be a Land Rover.
Wife wanted something not too big, I wanted something serious.
I wanted a Defender but my larger than average size made that it impractical. And my wife did not want what she called a jalopy as it would be her daily driver (height restrictions on my carpark at work).
One test drive of the Disco and we were convinced.
(am starting a diet just so that one day I will fit in a defender comfortably)
It was simple really why we have the Disco, it was the best 4WD we drove when looking for a new 4WD after i drowned the Explorer.
In fact the criteria was when looking, all of the family had to agree on the car, the Disco was the only one that we agreed on.
Only i drove a Defender (thanks Noddy) if all of us had drove one maybe things would have been different.
Baz.
Cheers Baz.
