When we had our train and skaletrix sets when we were kids we had this eraser type thing that was abrasive and you just rubbed it over both the train and the car tracks and it worked a treat, stuffed if i can remember what it was now.

That was good timing, once our new house is built, and the shed goes up, i'll be getting out, and fixing up my brother and i's track. It was a huge fixed affair that only came in the house once and a while because the only place we could put it was on top of the big dining room table!!!
Some **** painted it white as well, but somehow I think i'll need to replace a few pieces of the track anyway ;)
Several ways ...i find that the best is "solvol autosol" made in Uk and also germany..
A bit on a cloth and just get rid of the grime etc on the tracks...it is not a quick process...but you get really great long lasting results ...with the track in really pristine condition..
