    Cleaning Scalextric Track

Does anyone know a good, non-abrasive way of cleaning Scalextric track which is a bit tarnished with a liitle bit of surface rust. It needs to be something which wont also fade the colour of the track. Have tried soaking it in Coke which got rid of a fair bit but didnt do a complete job.

if its steel.....ron has a trick that works well.....

just soak it in a bucket of water with mollases.......it will eat away the rust......
it shouldnt affect anything else........i hope.....

check with ron.......i havent had a chance to try this method yet.......

i would have used steel wool......or brasso.......but that would mark the plastic either side of the tracks......

Thanks Tony, yes i have seen Rons website about the molasses and it could be the go. Might even try Steelo soap pads as they are fairly non abrassive. Just dont want to score the surface too much as it will just rust even quicker.

Good thinking, will have to be pretty careful or it could make some corners interesting.

Now does anyone know where I can get a 1/32 Plastic Landrover kit.

use an eraser, try the pen end first then the pencil end, I used it for years & works wonders.

I agree with Twitchy. I have an eraser in my drawer in my electronics workshop.

Don't use steel wool or such as the steel fibre as it breaks down its a mongrel to get out and the magnets in the motors of the cars will pick it up. I used wet and dry to clean up my old track and it still looks quiet good.

If your setting up a perm track on a table the other thing you can do is apply copper tape over it the type used by stained glass window makers. Continuous line with amazing results.

This is a track I'm building right now and will use copper tape for power when finished.

I have seen a dirty manky old stone age tractor that was just a plie of rust, u couldnt recognise it was a tractor, it was dunked in molasses for a few weeks and it came out real clean, not a scrap of rust on it. Very true about the magnets picking up the steel wool, didnt think of that when we were 10 years old!, wet and dry would be the ducks guts
