Brisbane City Council has got all funny about "toxic" and "dangerous" waste at their tips. They have limits on the amounts and types that can be taken to a normal tip which are now called "Transfer Stations". Much of what once just went into landfill at the local tips now has to be taken across the city to the Toxic Waste Tip out at Willawong. So what the citizens do, instead of a 40 kilometre or so round trip, is to just put their toxic waste into the weekly collected wheelie bin which no one looks into and is just picked up by the truck as long as the weight does not exceed 70 kilos. Alternatively, some just take it to the nearest bushland and throw it out. The weight limit on the bins was introduced because people were putting things like motor batteries, major engine parts, old machinery and scrap metal etc. in the bins.
The BP servo accross the Road has a carCare service centre & they Let me Dump all my Waste oil in their Waste Oil Drum which gets regularly collected. I have done this a few times...
ive got some news for you there........
the trucks that come and collect the waste oil.....actually pay for it.......
they actually buy the old oil to use to make other products with......
so you are actually doing them a favour by dumping your waste oil in there......
Our local Council uses Kroll heaters to heat their workshops. It can get rather chilly here during Winter, and they don't get nearly enough waste oil from all the council's cars, trucks, tractors and lawnmowers, so they GLADLY will take ANY waste oil from you in any amounts. They used to spend thousands a year on heating costs, now it's free. They want to extend the heating to the council office buildings, too, so bring your oil here and cut my council rates!
Hey Joel did you get rid of your oil?
Thanks Ian,
Managed to transport it without any problems on my trailer, no fines, no police, no trouble:D
