I'm about to move mine from the bull-bar of my D2 to a home-made bracket that clamps onto a roof rail. Its being moved to improve reception, along with a better aerial.
On Thursday, I had an ARB Deluxe bar fitted to my D3. It is the "bees knees" with one exception, it doesn't have a antenna mount.
My mobile phone antenna is currently fitted to my D1 by the use of one of those stainless steel "Z" mounts that attach next to the bonnet. I'll probably just transfer that.
My UHF antenna, on the other hand is mounted to the bull bar on the D1.
My current thoughts are to:
- mount it similarly to the mobile phone antenna, although I think that this will interfere with signals to/from behind,
- get an aftermarket bull bar mount and mount it there, no better/worse than currently,
- attach it to the spare wheel carrier (when I get it), but I'll have to use a reasonable extender to raise it above the roof (& then there is the problem of signal loss in the extended coaxial cable), or
- as it is a S/S antenna, my preferred solution (at this stage) is to find a way to mount it to the roof "rail", making sure that I use a spring mount.
I am very keen to hear of peoples thoughts and experiences.
Best Wishes,

The problem with welded on BB mounts is when they punch a hole through the bonnet after a minor shunt.
Go to your local GME supplier, they have cheap to really strong units. The best ones are the rolled units with the diameter to suit your bar work. I have two spotlights mounted on them and they are strong.

I think you will find a hole with a plug in it on each end of the bumper section of the bar near the idicators for your antennas (maybe to meet new RTA regs). As someone said, if you put tabs on the top bar, one bump and you will have new vents in the edge of the bonnet.
