How not to Crush your hand, and how to not yell like your Dying

Today i thought id quickly fix the clunking wipers on the Volvo run around that the missus has.
When the wipers are on there was a nice metalic clang and clunk from behind the dash.

So i ripped the glovebox out and had a squiz, yep a radio bracket had been bent by a "Techo" who installed the cd player... and it was hitting the wiper arm.
    Easy fix...

Put Left Hand in behind dash and move the bracket back and tighten the bolt, so i stuck my hand in and while i was bending it i Stupidly slipped and knocked the wiper arm on, even though its on the RH side of the column.

So picture this, Hand in behind Radio and wiper arm starts to move, then the cam action of the arm (part that was hitting the bracket) comes in contact with the back of my hand and crushes it against the radio..... Now i was lucky... as the cam was crushing and moving deeper into the back of my hand and ripping the flesh and crushing it, the radio started to come out of its holding plate and it stopped my hand getting really minced up.
But the worse was to come...... Its a Cam and it has to come back..... so as it did it then pushed the folded up skin back into place and forced it further into the back of my hand....

This only took about 1/2 a second, but as it started i knew it had to come back, i pictured in my head what it was doing and it felt like 5 seconds as it did it on the return pass....

So in future i wont have the ignition on when i have my hand behind the dash.

Believe me, it is not that bad!

My BIL is down hear ATM.
He arrived on the 3rd of December, fell down some steps on the 6th, broke his neck and sholder and is STILL in Hospital. He was back here for 5 hours, the halo shifted and the poor bugger was in intense pain.

Luckily he still has use of all his limbs, but is having a lot of problembs with the "Halo".

We hope he will be with us tomorrow, for Christmas and eventually get back to Townsville. They ony came down for two weeks.

Just when you think you have it rough, there is always some one worse off
    Fact of life, actually..

I thought Volvos were supposed to be safe.

Maybe it's because you weren't wearing a hat while inside the vehicle.

Believe it or not, this is not an uncommon "accident" in the meat processing trades. I think every butcher in the country knows of someone who got their hand caught in a mincer.
