Wanted ideas for a Victoria expedition

I am looking for inputs from the Victorian members about ideas for a trip of 10 days or more in the Victorian Hills and National Parks.
I had the chance to visiting the fire trucks in the Dargo region and left the taste for more exploration.
I am not very familiar with the terrain over there. I was thinking in something like this and I like to know if it is realistic and how many Landy's are recommended to be part of the group for safety reasons.
The Idea: Tararalgon to Licola, to During, to Abbeyard, to Mt Buffale, to Buckland. To Talbotville, to Dargo, to Swifts Creek, from here perhaps Mt Kosciuszko ?
    Planning for the next spring.
Willing to extend it to 2 weeks no problem
I am looking forward for inputs and interested members
    Cheers

Sounds like a good trip, you might want to add in Wonnangatta station as you are pretty much in the area, there's a few of us that would do a day trip here and there but most of that you would be right on your own though in most of the high country you dont have phone coverage so if your doing any extended traveling on your own then a sat phone may be a good thing but most of the time you wont be far from getting some sort of coverage on your standard digital.

You might want to go and have a look at some of the huts in the high country with Gav, Ray or Lada's while your up there.

Let us know when your down and Im sure there will be people who will help you out.

Thanks for the info, to be able to do the trip I have to find some more interested members. I am not willing to do it along. I think that can be a very interesting trip for landscaping & macro photography that is of my hobbies.
For theis reason I like to plan the trip with plenty time ahead.
Is there any book or info with maps published about this type of trips ?
    Cheers

    Hi,

when you say spring, make sure you're travel dates suit you're trip route as a lot of the vic high country is closed from June until November. Otherwise enjoy

There are lots of books and maps widely available with popular tourist destinations but advice really depends on what you want from you're trip ie: 4wd challenging / remote or basic 2wd roads.

Thanks Matt, for what I had read it is a trip itinerary that can not be plan to much in front because a lot of tracks are destroy and closed. Seems to me that once I am close to the date, then i would need to find about tracks conditions and reports.
March 2008 is dedicated for Tasmania, so Victoria have to be Easter or like you suggest from November on.

Easter is in March next year....so I'm guessing you would mean April

All roads (boats) to tassie are closed in march to landies as they all should be heading to cooma

We're meant to be off to Kangaroo Island at easter next year (if there is much left of it) and if were not then Cooma is a possabillity (plenty of stuff to take photo's of there).

I'm heading up through Licola, Glencairn and the Butcher country next week, I'll give you an idea of the conditions when I get home.

Thanks Hymie, I am looking forward for your report. Let me know if the tracks are suitable for trailers (high clearance RR wheels)
Cheers and have a good trip

I'd suggest you go off to a good map shop and get a bunch of the high country maps put out by Rooftop. These have a lot of information on them about campsites, places of interest etc not found on other maps, and are generally accurate and up to date.

For a good general map on a larger scale of the high Country, HEMAs one isn't bad and there's also another one by Spatial Vision, although I've found a few tracks missing off that.
