thats about what Id expect with nothing stiffening the front of the rover (bullbar) and something coming in with substantial weight to plough into the front wheel pushing it all back then twisting the impacted vehicle up under the drivers side of the rover where else do you expect to have all the metal go?
also a little unfair (but very realistic) to do it comparing a vehcile thats engineered with crumple zones to one that isnt.
This does help highlight one of the things I always do when the inevitable is going to happen. If I know I cant miss I aim to hit square. If you hit with the full front of the rover(preferabley as square as possable across both chassis members) your not going to have that wierdo stuff happening. Ive posted up the end result of a dead square on hit on the front of a 110 before (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-ch...mple-zone.html)

Hmmm 40mph, thats about 64kph. Normal undivided road, loser texting on the mobile phone (or equivalent distraction) - it's a wonder it doesn't happen more often.
Those videos are fascinating. I just hate seeing a perfectly good thing destroyed.
Thanks for sharing that one.
I'm with BLKNIGHT, the moral of the story is:- always aim for a full frontal. You might not have time but the bigger the contact area the better -for both vehicles.
Yes and no. Don't forget the glancing nature of the blow meant that the cars moved around and were able at least in part to keep going. This is energy that was dissapated. So the upside is that possibly the driver in the disco may have died or been seriously injured in the crash but the other occupants would probably have survived. If had been a head on then the other occupants might have been injured by the more severe stop.
On the positive the disco did better than I expected and lots better than this volvo
Volvo vs espace

Surely they could have at least pulled the alloy rims off that disco!![]()

Yes well obviously drive carefully, but if there's one message to take out of that first video it is.....
Ban Renault Espace's. Look how dangerous they are to other vehicles they hit !
