I wear them these days, I use to not wear shoes often though. I agree with what someone else said about not offering any protection in a crash anyway. But I wear them now just in case something does happen and i need to be out of the vehicle quickly on hot bitumen.

Sometime ago a gent on another forum wrote a letter to all relevent state & territory bodies asking them this question and all but NSW replied. The result was that it is not illegal however some of them highlighted that in the case of an accident then a persons footwear or lack of it will be taken into account in determining cause of accident and charges may result if it contributed.

Perhaps the driving assessors feel that barefoot does not allow proper control of the vehicle but it is not legislated specifically.
Only Beetnicks and Bums drive with bear feet, SLACKERS :eek:
Barefoot driving on Christmas Day, every year, dunno why.
Never on long distance, gets too hot on the floor.

Thought this was a Land Rover forum try driving a series with bare feet in 48 degree heat.

Never! Actually, I thought it was illegal (in NSW).
As soon as I'm home, it's bare feet everywhere (except when welding or mowing).
I may have, once, in the driveway, worn bare feet (thongs taken off) but otherwise, on road, always shoes. My feet aren't all that big, so I definitely need the support the soles of the shoes give when fighting, er, driving.

I have been known to drive barefoot on the odd occasion, goes back to the days of my old Cherokee with the finnicky clutch, I just found it easier to get the feel for the clutch in bare feet rather then big clunky shoes, I did believe and my dad said it was actually illegal to drive barefoot in the NT though I doubt half the population of Darwin would actually own shoes, they prefer to steal your thongs
Other than when I'm at work, welding, mowing the lawn or attending a funeral, I prefer not to wear shoes if I can possibly avoid it. I don't wear thongs, but slip-on type sandals (with no back straps). I won't wear these while driving, as they're just as dangerous as thongs. So it's bare foot driving approximately 95% of the time for me.
