Do you drive with bare feet?

I might have had a problem driving like this, but on a trip across from Roper Bar to Booraloola in a Series III, my wife preferred to have bare feet.
It meant she could sit there in 40+ heat with her feet in a bucket of water. She claimed it kept her cooler.

I wear steel caps maybe 70 hours a week.

I hate wearing shoes the rest of the time.

If i go outside i wear thongs and when i drive i shove them under the seat so as not to get them in the way.

In the wifes Mazda6 TD wagon i find the footwell rather cramped with boots and the clutch is a real bugger.

In the Bravo much of a muchness but if i don't NEED shoes i don't wear then.

it depends on what I'm driving, shoes don't fit between some of the pedals and one of the others you get a better feel for the pedal in barefeet rather than shoes - but to be confusing that car has the accelerator inbetween the brake and clutch:eek:

Only highway and round town but when offroad its shoes or no go

I prefer to not wear shoes as much as I can. I drive without them all the time.
I've even attended a car accident in a suit but bare foot and kicked the door in to get to the occupant.

I too wear steel caps every day at work. When I'm at home I tend to wear Teva Sandles as I find they last the longest, are comfortable and fit well. Therefore you can drive in them. But if you're covered in mud or wearing thongs (on your feet) then there is no way I'd drive in anything but bare feet.

When we had a roll over 5 years ago, my wife had here sandles off, I didn't. As a consequence my feet weren't cut up as much as her's were.

Bare feet on a long trip - better grip on the pedal, and after decades of driving old vehicles I can 'feel' any mechanical irregularity especially vibration through my feet.

I didn't realise that shoes made your leg stronger. In an emergency I'm sure you could find the strength.

I used to go barefoot everywhere, even 4WDing and had tough feet. My feet are very large and in some cars I find it hard to stick to one pedal wearing boots(Minis are the worst). These days I mostly wear shoes but will drive barefoot to the beach or back.

As for steel caps providing protection, only if you drop something on them. They will slice your foot in two if you hit something toe first, therefore they shouldn't be worn on motorbikes.

Wearing shoes doesn't make your leg stronger, I find they improve the ability of the feet to push on the pedal. It's not the raw strength, rather the transfer of effort.

I find that they help spread the load across the whole foot, reducing the pressure in one particular area. In my case, when I tried feeling the pedals in the County barefoot, I found that my feet tended to squish rather than push down, and so sustained operation did not feel like a particularly good idea. But be aware that my feet aren't the largest or toughest about.
