Ummm thanks for the replys all, I got a lot more than I thought.......

Just for the record by footwear being better in a mva I mean leather steel caps boots, which I wear all the time.....Ive seen enough to know in something serious nothing will help, but Im talking med to low speed stuff ie the leather may help with cuts.......I wear the Oliver brand, very light breath well and really compfy..........

The mva's Ive been at if somebody is pinned, its usally by the legs/feet, so I think, for what its worth Im better off wearing my boots than nothing at all, but thats just me because our feet are much more important than we care to think about........rather have an arm injury than a foot injury........

Unless I'm going out, it's steelcap elastic-sided boots for me. I prefer barefeet around home but my wife always nags when I get steel splinters, e.g, off the bench grinder wire wheel, in my feet.

The rule governing this also covers driving in other inappropriate footwear (incorrect equipment) like thongs or certain types of sandals.
I would never drive in a thong. Imagine the issues if you had a MVA. The people in the ambulence could find out and then they would be....like eeew...this bloke is wearing a thong!!!!

Seriously, I'll drive in bare feet if it suits me. On my long trips sometimes my boots get hot and my feet start to sweat and get sore Sometimes I'll drive bare feet to let them dry out

Also I tend to drive in bare feet if it's raining as I don't like my shoes getting wet in the car

    never bare feet driving here.
Just don't feel I have control, and I doubt I could generate full pedal pressure on the brake in an emergency, either.

and being in the country it's a risk running around sans footwear at the best of times, too many bloody burrs, etc. around.

I often drive bare feet. Actually gives better grip on the peddles than with most shoes.
As for crush injuries, unless you wear safety boots most shoes will offer absolutely no protection. They may offer some minimal protection to abrasion but that is about it.

Can't drive a Series LR wearing a thong - the vinyl seats burn ya cheeks...
