When I had my MINI I used to drive without shoes whenever possible as it enabled me to heel and toe. Same in the lotus. So that's something I just can't do with shoes on in cramped Brit motors

    G'day Folks

I always wear shoes, ever since I had to be cut from a Van after a MVA with a tree,(blown steer tyre) only thing that saved my feet was the army AB's that I was wearing, but did my knees, by planting them in the steel dash panel, that was way back in 73.

    cheers

I finally explained that it was meant to be shoes, secured to your feet as opposed to thongs which can slip off.
Barefeet is safer, if you have thongs kick them off.
In some cars my RM Williams foul the underside of the dash so I have to take them off too.

WHAT ! ! You drive with no strides on as well?

When I drive to work I put my shoes on when I get there if I'm wearing fancy shoes. If they are just runners then maybe I'll put them on at home.

Ok, I've resisted so far, but I have to ask, those that say you drive with shoes because it's safer in a crash, do you drive with a helmet as well?

I drive however I feel most comfortable, so long as i'm able to concentrate on the road, I'm fine. If that means no shoes cause my feet are hot and sweaty, I'm fine with it (even if the family aren't cause the smell wafts thru the car). I always have something close by to put on though.

    Shoes or not, be comfortable.

Generally leg/foot crush injuries would be a low priority. Head and chest injuries would be more of a concern and I sure as hell would not want to wear work boots everywhere. Quite often it is the boot that hinders getting a foot out as well.
