It seems like a lot of people (like me) think the Merc G wagen would be a good thing.
Trouble is finding a non Land Rover replacement for my Rangie at the same price. Any Jap wagon for around $6000 is not really going to come close to what I have now.
I could see myself in a new LandCruiser diesel tray top, but they are ridiculous with a wide front and narrow rear track (about 100 mm difference from memory).

I've never been able to look past the pregnant bonnet of the F head engined flat fenders, so it would have to be an MB with the Go-Devil side valve engine.
No Ford badged GPW's for this little black duck either, it has to be a Willy's, after owning Kaiser and AMC versions. (my very first registered car was a CJ-6)
Already have a GU ute, have always like the G Wagon, really hoped Jeep would make the Gladiator ute as I had a genuine Jeep Gladiator J3000 from 1970 and loved the old girl. (D60 rear and D44 front end, spring over both ends and flex !)
As well as an MB I've always wanted a 1977 Jeep Cherokee Chief with the 401 engine and Quadra Trac.
Sorry, but from the age of about 6 my family always had Jeeps and so you become a bit indoctrinated........
Like all good children, I blame my parents...
just re-reading the above, with a car history like that, no wonder I drive a Defender.![]()

Hmm lets see ...still has to be British.... A Rolls Royce sounds about right
New :- D3 TDV6 2006 SE
Bullbar, traxide dual battery
General grabber ATs
Mitch hitch
Home made drawer and fridge system
Foldable UHF antenna on roof rail
One of my mates had a 2002 rhd g500 swb gwagen. Awesome car! I would love one.... it just kept pulling! felt heavy when pushing on in the twisties and doing big stops tho (and I have a race licensce)
nice inside. just like a top end merc. Good off road, cool, powerful, decent spec...
Also quite like gu Patrols, and Wranglers.
Pete
Original Jeep would be the first choice and if I was to be civilised, a G Wagen.
A Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon to replace the Disco or a New Dodge Power Wagon Quad cab.
As a play toy either an Old 50's Power Wagon or kaiser, OR when money permits import my 51 M38 with a Chevy 283, 3speed tranny with overdrive / underdrive and get it runing properly for the trails.
GQ or GU 4.2T 6. I've owned one. Loved it.
Issue is with 4.2t that they don't have sufficient cooling capacity. Bigger radiator would be fine.
