I didn't read the whole thread but there are a lot of people who are optimistic about it. There was a comparison to the classic VW beetle... interestingly I didn't read a comparison with the FSM Niki though which seemed to be fairly closely related to the Fiat Bambino and was not successful in the relatively modern and affluent economic climate.

We used to have one of them. Slow, evil handling, unreliable, but built very strongly.

Yes it was in the paper - TATA ( who are purchasing Land Rover ) are apparently building a new "people's car", (reminciscent of the VW Beetle, which was actually initiated by Adolf Hitler ) for their local Indian market and other developing nations. You'd have to expect it to be pretty basic and doubt it would meet Australian Design Rules, so not able to be imported here - never know though.

Maybe it'll be like that Chzeckoslavakian car made out of carboard, what was it the Trabant or something ?

A colleague of mine bought a Nikki for his daughter. It proved to be the most unreliable car I have ever had even the slightest association with. Probably averaged around one serious breakdown per week from new until he got rid of it. The reason for its lack of success was not the economic climate, but its total unreliability.

Some fairly basic cars have sold reasonably in recent years - Suzuki Sierra probably being the prime example. But the car discussed is probably much more basic than that.
