With the looming Cyclone threatening to give Darwin a shake it made me think about Tracy and what she did to my family xmas eve 74, we lost our house in Nakara, only surviving things being a lamp and a bottle of plonk, I know there is one ex Navy guy on AULRO that was there, any others around?

What were you doing in '74? Did you bank ANZ Smith St?
I was only two months old and in SA when Tracy went through!
I was just in Darwin and went to the museum (for the second time).
There is a very good display about the cyclone, including a sound recording that they play in a darkened room. It was very windy indeed.
Yep. Spent over 3 months there.
Posted to HMAS Stalwart at the time, we were Darwins Power Station for 2 months. Till we got the towns power station fixed. Took a massive load of Army gear up with us. Steamed through a re-energised Tracy in the Gulf to get there. Nearly didn't make it.
Reroofed the TAFE college and the Hospital, then did the salvage on HMAS Arrow.
And I still remember the Woolworths Morgue.
It was on returning from that trip I stepped forward for Fire and Rescue specialist training.
Hmm, now to find the box with those photo's stacked somewhere at the bottom.

I went there with 6RAR, D Company to clean up after.
Not a pretty site at all...
We might have got drunk together Ron. Did you hit the very first day of trading in the pub? I think it was the first place in town to get a generator.
I did. I was the one who went back to ship, and got my guitar.![]()
