Those pilots are great blokes.....Just mad.

We had "Elvis" (skycrane) based at Hamilton airport for a few months about 3-4 years ago.

A few of the blokes wanted to go out for a close look at him one night on a brigade training night, but I thought better of it as I knew the guys would be busy doing a service or checks for the next day etc......and didnt want to bother them or get in there way etc........

But after the guys winging that I was a barstard we went out for a look, but staying at the fence about 150m from Elvis just having a look.

We were happy with that but the pilot & service crew where there and waved us to come over........they let us climb into and all over the thing , I was very surpised, and they where great blokes to boot.

Usally in Vic you cant even get close to a MFB or CFA snorkel or platfrom without getting chased away by staff firefighters...... cant even ask questons or just look from a distance, just incase a play with it (as if)

That night really was a highlight and I wont forget it, didnt say that to the young blokes though, stayed there for about two hours........

So as they are great blokes and do a very hard job very well , I dont mind getting "dumped on " every now and then, and of course they have saved countless lives & property.............
