I'm heading up there for a mate's wedding in the first weekend of February. The wedding is at Seaworld, so we decided to stay there 3 nights. I have used my "points" from my credit card to help pay. Ain't cheap though, but the kids are hanging out for it, plus they miss 2 days of school, but don't tell anyone... Have not been to the Gold Coast for years, and the kids have never been, so I am excited for them...

Try wotif and similar web sites...u never know, and there are plenty of family friendly places to stay up there, who may offer discounted rates...i said MAY..

    G'day Graceysdad

If you are hiring a car or people mover it might be worth while checking out the hotels motels in and around Beenleigh/ or around the Rum distillery, as it is only a short trip down to the northern gold coast

    cheers

I dont mind the theme parks as ADF entry isnt too bad and usually in the off season they send out fliers to the bases for up to about 50% off for a group providing that X amount are ADF. and since I dont feel the cold that suits me just fine.

But Im never going anywhere near the dreamworld TV/Movie Production show again. Ive been to dreamworld 3 times, the first time I wanted to see the special to see how they did some of the stuff they do.. (I was 16ish) the next 2 times I went with the wife (who of course wanted to see it) and then some mates of hers (who naturally also wanted to see it). For those of you who were there at all three of those times with cam corders (thanks SWMBO for showing all your work friends the video) if you look really closely the poor git playing superman all 3 times , yeah you got it, thats me... 3 times on average 4 years apart

for the guys who pick the public to play superman... The first time I could believe it I was young I was good looking 10 foot tall and bulletproof, Yeah I could impersonate superman. the next two times given that Id been on holidays for over 5 weeks a simple tip...

Superman has niether a beer gut OR a full head of hair including a blended beard and moustache.

    its not a pretty picture.

Hell no me win a lottery! not likely, no the mother inlaw is chucking in for the accom, even still looking at the park passes which alone are over a grand for us, then add accomodation and getting there, driving is ok I know my around the Gold Coast, its looking like robbing a bank is the best way, who wants to drive the getaway landy and it better not be a series we actually want to get away with it. Shikes its getting dearer every year and we keep putting it off, the only way to do it on the cheap is take the flamin tent and they are not airconned or got fans!, keep muddling along and see, the internet is ok buy I might get a QLD phone book be easier an less scary. NumptysMissus u make a valid point what happened to the family day out, I can remember hopping on the tram to glenelg with ma and pa, we get off at the jetty, get a coke or icecream and walk out the jetty and see what was happening with the fishos, then take a walk up the road and have fish and chips by the sea, cost little more then 10 bux I guess, these days its multiples of hundreds, look at HOYTS u go to see a flick, the actual pic cost is ok its the poppety corn and a drink is 10 bux, multiplyed by 4 add the movies, entertainment is getting way out of control.

I know if you buy your tickets to the theme parks from RACQ they are cheaper so maybe something to look into.

I have a sofa bed and music studio you could rent :P

On a budget and have a crew to accommodate check out Treasure Island Caravan Park. They have vans, cabins and hotel rooms.
Plenty of on site activities for kids and it is closer to the Theme Parks than most other accommodation on the coast except for Sea World.
You also have a shopping Hub almost next door.

Check the link below, it is a very nice and well set up place.

We are looking at Treasure Island now, we are going to move the times forward a bit so we avoid peak times, looks like we can get a 6 berth van for the right dollar, very little can be done about the theme parks, all I can say they better be outstanding value
