Is it a Man thing, this whole my 4WD v You 4WD?

Bound to be interesting, but I guess I am interested as I don't get it. I drive a D3, I love it, I think it is the ants pants. Now some on here will say LR have gone soft, or that it is a couch with bells and whistles. Other brand owners will run with its an LR, gunna have issues, better be careful...blah..blah...blah.

On the same token, there is this LR side where the likes of mainly Toyota's but Japanese 4WDs in general, just dont cut the mustard.............yet they do. The inane thing is that we all drive 4WD'S, whether an LR 50 yrs old or a day old, whether it is a Toyota, Nissan, Pajero etc. I find that there is so much misinformation and that in most cases it comes down to one eyed opinion and nothing more.

One might not like the styling, the electrics or lack thereof, but I find it amusing that some people are just hell bent....why? First time 4WDing, bogged on Bribie Beach, thank god a bloke in a Cruiser came along and snatched me out. I enjoy watching other 4bies on DVD's, cause it is the 4WDing that is great to watch, obviously if it is LR's it is more enjoyable. Its great to head over to Fraser and see all the sorts of people in their chosen 4WD enjoying the great outdoors.

Personally I dont care what sort of 4by you drive, if you are out getting dirty, muddy, exploring ie enjoying the 4WDing/ camping lifestyle, good on ya. So why are some people so strong when it comes to other brands, does it really matter. Watching the Hilux in Top Gear cross the Polar, was awesome, I didnt sit there going "Bloody yota, or piece of crap, or that aint a 4WD", that machine rocked............as would a Fender suitably kitted up. Thoughts? ,

    Regards

    Stevo

I have plenty of mates, who's jappers I drive and repair, I hate one eyed (not just light hearted) stabs at jap stuff, I regularaly drive my old man's 79 series RV troopy, done canning, cape york, simpson kimberleys (the vehicle and him not me) and the thing is faultess, you can't compare with the build quality either, the FIRST rover from factory I've seen that is built well.......is the D3, everything has a place, no rubbing hoses etc....doesnt look like an engine conversion, it looks right, bloke I know TDV6 by the way

Why do I have Rovers, because I like them, I like the way they drive, the vision and all sorts of reasons, but aslong as it gets you out, so freaking what

Good Point, I tend to agree. Allthough I love me Landie's, I liken to being in my blood! I get a obsession with the product from the series vehicle all the way through to a Disco 3 or Rangie Sport ! And im sure there are plenty of people out there that feel the same way whatever the brand !

I like the Frindly brand bashing and banter that goes on between people that have a common like .............Driving 4BY's and 4Wdriving !
And I tend to beleve that you support and back what you chose to buy !..............If you drive a Landrover you back it coz it was your choice and until the day you buy somthing else you support your decision !

And even on a ALL LANDIE trip....the banter still exists !......... RAngie / Disco / Series vehicles !

I tend to agree - I prefer Landrovers but there is really nothing wrong with most of the other makes - all have strengths and weaknesses. Most Landrover drivers where other makes are concerned are quite tolerant (though most still pick on us poor Freelander drivers ) but many Toyota drivers, well at least most that go on forums, are so one eyed - they tend to put their brand on a pedestal and will not consider the virtues of any other brands.

I do not dislike other brands but I do dislike the owners of some of these brands.

Your car is a representation of yourself, so naturally if you are at all competitive you will always try to talk up what you own. Plus it's competition that makes it fun, when you and your LR make it through something tough naturally you will make sure someone knows.

I dunno, it just comes with 4bying and proving the brand you drive to everyone else. Even though it is often your skills and the excessiveness of the modifications that you have done to the car.

Mate that's a good post and one that I agree with. I've only got so much time on this place and i cant be bothered convincing people that my choice is the best or whatever.

The only issue I have is if I'm travelling with them I reserver the right not to if I think it's important. I've had my holiday adversely affected by Toyota reliability and I draw the line at that.

I dislike the guys that bag out big reds abilities offroad and then when bested switch to "but bad insulation, bad aircon, no carpet and thats not a sound system"

But no so nearly so much as the guys who bag her and then refuse to take the respondant challange based on "no, I dont want to get mine dirty".....

My 4wd's better than yours.....oh yeah and spider man would beat up super man for sure.......

I was up near yanchep on the weekend. There was a bloke there in a tdi defender and his nephew in a pootrol. The pootrol sailed up a big sand hill. The defender then had three goes. Got stuck about 1/2 way up and chewed it for everybody else. I had a go (and much to my suprise got up and over it as i couldnt last time i was there) and breezed up it. The the defender blokes nephew says to me "make sure you give him sh*t about that cause he hates discoveries"

I had to walk away and laugh. A bloke driving a pootrol tells me to take the p*ss out of a bloke driving a defender cause he hates discoveries......

ps my cars a range rover.....

I've had the opposite experience... people asking me to come on trips with them to pull them out. One memorable request was from the x-trail club but unfortunately I had something else on at the time...
