I had a County - I'm still not sure that I did the right thing selling it.

I think it was that I couldn't justify having two 4WDs.

I can justify it to myself " D3 for medium trips and camping....modified County for hard/ extreme trips", its justifying it to SWMBO. She has a point we do have another brat on the way to add to the 4 we all ready have between us ,

    Regards

No offence Tony, but based on your thinking, you'd be hard pushed to let any vehicle park in your driveway....including a Land Rover .
    Stevo,

I fully agree, but... and theres always a but, 200,300 years ago the world was a very different place, than what it was in the 30's and 40's, buy then we were supposed to be "civilized" society hence the trials in Germany in 46-47-48, very little of the Justice that was seen there was performed in the Pacific theater also the Germany people repented, the Japanese people were told it never happened we didn't do it and for the most part still are to this day. I can still remember as a child in the 60's watching my uncle die from disease caught in the pacific, watching Friends of my father's slowly withering away and they were the lucky ones they came home...

anyway I'll get off my soap box now this is not the place for my views as its only the generation born into and just after that traumatic time in world history that seems to give a dam....so we'll just keep buying all there consumer goods shake our heads when they kill another humpback whale and have another Latte'

So back to what this site is all about Landrovers...I would love a lightweight, and a 90 they would be the first things I brought if i won lotto

    Tony

An interesting topic and a complicated phenomenon to explain - the rivalry between 4x4 brands. As with other rivalries (e.g. sporting) it can come in different flavours from friendly competition to outright vindictiveness. I'm reminded of an incident that occurred on a trip near Balgowlah where a Landy driver came unstuck on rocksteps on a seriously steep part of the track and just about removed his Defender's rear axle in one hit. While he was being recovered a group driving another brand came up the track and passed us one by one, those not driving gathering at the obstacle to watch. As one driver passed he yells out to the rest "It can't be a very difficult track if a Land Rover made it this far up before breaking!" Accompanied by many 'Har,Hars' and sneering grins from many of the group. It didn't sound like 'friendly banter' to me (okay - I need thicker skin) and I thought it was a pretty poor way to carry on.
(The Defender was recovered after removing the driveshaft, refitting a rear spring, replacing a mangled trailing arm - all interesting exercises with the chassis on the rocks and at a 45degree incline - and then winching out.)
Anyway, lets enjoy the character, capabilities and history of our Land Rovers and keep the rivalry friendly.

I'm gonna add fuel to a fire here and just say....

I have yet to see another brand of 4wd as capable OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR as a Land Rover. In fact, I think I'm also YET TO SEE a Land Cruiser that hasn't been raised AT LEAST 2 inches, before being any good.

I know that Toyota dealers deliver a GREAT MANY of their vehicles via ARB !
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
