BP Ultimate is only new in WA, we have had it for ages in Victoria.

I've used quite a few tanks without any problems, I'm not sure that the fuel could be blamed for causing an injector pump leak.

If you open the timing cover inspection plate I believe that its possible to unbolt the pump driveshaft and then remove the 3 bolts holding it in, plus all the fuel lines and cables.

i have been using it for ages and i to have noticed in the last few days that the injector pump is leaking, and i to have a 300Tdi, be it a disco.

Any idea where it is leaking from, i cant work it out on mine, it only leaks when its been sitting for a while and only just after start up. Once its been running its fine.

    What's BP Ultimate ?
Is it just the normal ULSD 50+ cetane stuff we've had here for the last several years ? or something different ?

thats the one ultra low sulfer diesel... But i think they put a trick addative in it that does something akin to an injector cleaner... Which I think we're going to find that this addative is incompatable with some old style seals...

Its going to be the ethanol blend fuel debarcle all over again.

i am pretty sure its the ultimate that they are selling in town, i only ever fill up at BP servos, i find when i fill up elsewhere that i get less km's to the tank and i have less power.

Sulphur levels have been dropping for quite a few years now - the wear on seals etc would be cumulative and I daresay that there would be a very strong correlation between failure rates of seals and seal age rather than the brand of fuel used. Its unlikely that the seal was in the same condition as when it rolled off the production line - and then two tanks of fuel has magically destroyed the seal.

When I had my fuel system rebuilt and saw the wear for myself on injectors with 303,000 km on them, it was quite apparent that no additive or special fuel was going to do them any good - and the bosch agent said this himself - no fuel or additive will replace metal wear, broken springs and pitted nozzles.

The recommended service life (for good economy and emissions output) for the KBEL injector - according to Bosch is 100,000 km. Ever since I've fitted new injectors, the brand of fuel has made no difference to economy, whereas in the past I always believed BP gave best economy and power. He advised that provided the fuel was from Mobil/Shell/BP there shouldn't be any quality issues.

In some areas the fuel being sold at a particular service station can at times be a different brand - IMHO better economy and power from a particular brand is probably psychosomatic.

I bought my 1988 (yes 1988) grey import Pajero with a mere 17,500 kms on it from new, 4 years ago...within 6 months the pump was leaking (shock - it was getting used)...after a bit of research it was clear that the old seals were not dealing with the new-ish ULSD.
A pump rebuild with viton seals and it never missed a beat after that. Even drank Bio without a hitch...but no computer or sensors to worry about, lol!

    pivots around that point really.

all seals leak eventually once they get put into service about the worst thing you can do short of mangling it or running it dry is change what its holding back... If it doesnt leak on the first change it will when you change back.
