I think you'd be looking for Camel Landy...

Judging by the clock, and the time difference, It's about time for him to emerge for his nightly wanderings through the AULRO wilderness...

oh dear your not going there permanently are you? we escaped 15 months ago because of the rate of decline of the place. if your going there on hols or touring then you should see the nicer side...

    i can only answer 4 and 5..

4, yes and probably worse, not so much a policed state more nanny, but cost of living is high... fuel is over $2.50 a litre immigration is out of hand (you'll struggle in most midland towns / cities to hear anyone speaking english ... i could go on too.. ) laws that mean nothing other than politically, house prices through the roof, zero invesment into the transport network (public or roads) want any more?

5, depends what you do... im a mechanical engineer and never struggled, plenty of contracting work, and plenty of job hunting websites should you need to find something!

if you need the addresses of these sites let me know!

    Thanks

Sorry mate, but having moved here a year ago, I don't think I'd be regarding myself as lucky if I had to go back.

Oh, and pick the area where you choose to live carefully, or you may find English isn't a very useful language to speak in certain parts of England these days....

Well I live in West Yorkshire as well. (My login name might give some people a clue LOL)

Job situation will depend on what qualifications you have. Remember within an enlarged EU we have plenty of legal migrants from Poland, Romania etc do jobs in the building trade and less skilled work

IF you have a very speicialist skill you might be ok.

UK is not a police state but is a nanny state and an EXTREMELY HEAVILY taxed state. If you **** all your money up against the wall the state (i.e. British taxpayer) will bail you out. Lose your job and have a total of about $15,000, forget it!

Many citiies within a decade the caucasian British person will be in a minority

Well, I'm originally from London but I now live in Wiltshire (in fact I live 15km North of Salisbury Plain )and work a bit in the Midlands...

    OK... Here goes.

1 - International Meet. I'd be up for something but as always, the devil is in the detail.

2 - MOD 90. Any reason why ex-MOD? If it's cost, remember that they are as basic as you get and by the time you've added a few creature comforts, etc... You might as well have bought a 110 at auction. Check out Brightwells auctions for an idea of auction prices at the moment.

3 - LR Clubs in the Midlands - Well, you could always try the Midland Land Rover Club. They're a very active club.

4 - Living, fuel, etc... Make of it what you will, the grass is always greener on the other side. I looked at emigrating, spent 6mths in Oz, 5mths in Nz and decided that we were better off in the UK. Sure, fuel is £1.04 / L and there's plenty of other things to p1ss you off but on the whole it's not too bad. Could do with a bit more sun though...

5 - Job situation. Well, that depends on what skills you've got... Do a search on some of the UK job sites and get an idea of what's around for yourself.

As for some of the other comments... Well...

Public Transport - OK, there are problems with the UK system but when you've travelled and tried to use systems in other countries around the World... Actually, on the whole, we've got a pretty good system.

Ethnic mix - Again, I think it's a good thing. Things would be better if certain minority groups didn't all congregate in certain areas... However, if you look at the Brits abroad, we're guilty of exactly the same thing.

Taxes - Well, you've got to pay for the public services somehow... Personally, I'd prefer to pay significantly more (like in Canada & Scandinavia) but I would expect to see a much, much better level of service.

Nanny State - Yes, that's one of my pet hates. "Health & Safety" legislation is mad at the moment... Charles Darwin would be shocked as people are just not learning to make the risk assessment for themselves. Over the next few years, I fully expect to see more tourists, wandering through the Qld parks, ready to sue someone if they get eaten by a saltie... Survival of the fittest I say.

    G'Day Camel landy,
Q1, well have to arrange something as soon as I get some wheels,
