    G`day Ron

An slow and limited brain , it has the capacity to relate MPG but not Ltrs/100 .

For me it`s easier and my mind can relate Klms to one litre .

    Not very hard to change though . 5klms for 1 lltr = 20/100 or 350k from 70 ltrs .

None of these figs are exact and are only a guide .

    Cheers

    Ron's right.

If it's not hard to change then the sensible solution is to change TO the standard, not FROM the standard.

    G`day Allan

Of coarse your right but as i said for me the way i do it is right for me .

Most of the figs given are for Klms per Ltrs as in 370klms for 66ltrs

Of the 11 i took 9 were given this way and for me it`s far simpler to relate these to klms per ltr .

2 were as Ltrs per 100klms , so if you have a problem it`s not mine as i can adapt either way .

I know metrics have been here along time but my mind still needs both systems to make sense of things and sometimes i have to do things my own way to understand .

By the way i have no problem reading and understanding lower case letters , though i do admit to using reading glasses at times .

    Cheers , Peter .

    Is this better?
..... the sensible solution is to change to the standard, not from the standard.

    or perhaps
... the sensible solution is to change to the standard, not from the standard.

    or
... the sensible solution is to change to the standard, not from the standard.

    or even
... the sensible solution is to change to the standard, not from the standard.

It's not just a question of what is easy. I can cope with the maths alright. It's also a question of what is the accepted standard.

    Dunno.

    It's simple really - divide 66 by 3.7 (from 3.7 x 100km)

Is that any harder than 370/66? No.

Now I can start on the correct abbreviations for kilometres and speed. It's km, not klm (that's an airline) and it's km/h not kph (you can't get that one wrong - it's on your speedo dial).

I realise that people are comfortable doing things the way they have always done them, but sometimes it is in everyone's best interests to convert to what is the correct standard.

I'm not sure I understand what you meant by the bit I have highlighted. If you are referring to the preference shown by people who contributed to this thread, I found about 13 posts referring to km/litre (often just expressed as something like 370km for 66 litres) and 11 references to litres/100km.
So it seems fairly evenly divided.

No not upset , just don`t see any point arguing about something that i do differently to the norm or right way of doing things .

One of the reasons i don`t generally use General Chat , only really Tech and if the RR part looks any good i`d like to spend time there but it all depends how much rubbish goes on .

I initially joined around the same time as yourself and so have seen alot of what goes on here .

So not upset , just don`t see the point .

    Cheers
