My new Disco
G'day All,
I've recently purchased a 99 Disco 3.9 manual, dark green in colour. It is not my first 4 x 4 but I am already impressed and I'm looking forward to a long relationship with her.
I have been having a bit of a surf around this site and I got a bit scared about the fuel consumption that I have seen other blokes post. Some of the figures are pretty bad so I decided to see how much my baby drank. I filled her to the brim (89L tank) and drove around town and got just over 500 k's to a tank. Not sure if this is good or not but I basically tried not to go over 2,500 revs in any gear and she went alright, what do you guys reckon? Couple more quick questions for you lot.....
1. What about LPG, is it worth it, do I have to sacrifice load space for the tank?
2. Will extractors make a difference?
I love her already, i've tended to a few little injuries she had and I think she appreciated it, runs like a beauty, sounds magnificent and looks great. My cheese and kisses thinks that I'm exhibiting strange behaviour, she'll never understand. I think she is jealous.... I'll post a picture on my profile as soon as I can work out how to use this site properly.

Hi Hucksta,
If you got 500kms driving around town from 89L thats pretty good, works out to be about 17.8L / 100km. I do mainly freeway driving and get the same consumption, so take her for a good long drive and see what you get then.
Alot of people run gas with the V8's but don't forget your consumption goes up and the government are going to put a tax on LPG this year so you will have to work out if its worth the installation cost and how long it will take to recoup your losses.
I wouldn't run gas if my life depended on it, but that's because I've had an old 350cu Fairlane running on gas and it was nothing but trouble, apparently the systems have improved now but its put me off even considering it for my Disco.
Re extractors, I’m not sure if they do actually improve consumption but I know with mine I can’t resist flooring it in the undercover car park and through tunnels
cheers
Duncan
