    Limeburners closed

for all the sydneyites that have enjoyed weekends at Limeburners, you only have your photos and memories now.
i got a phonecall from one of my Dingo Dell contacts confirming that it is now in the hands of the NPWS and shut.

i'll ignore the comment about the bolt cutters, but as far as i know it is PERMANENT.
it was private property and has been bought by the NPWS. we never had a claim to it, the previous owners never worried about visitors.

    it is still fenced off.
you can camp at the NPWS site near the creek, or if you are in an associated club and on a club trip you can book to stay on the private property within the fenced area.
the fencing and the obvious attempts to curb the erosion, along with the media information about the place has helped keep intrusion to a minimum.
the kowmung fire trail is still and will remain open so through access from kanangra to shooters hill is still possible.

Did not relise it was private land originally. That statement would never ever apply to private land. It is by peoples grace we are allowed to access some amazing private property.
But being aquired by NWPS or any other government organisation, we all have the right of access. They need to remember that it is public land not their own. If we started to fight back as a group and demand access or open access ourselves as a group what alternative would they have. The excuses they use to prohibit access are flimsy at most. Dieback is the most common as legislation can restrict access, but in many cases this is a red herring and then they wonder why people ignore signs and in the cases where it is real people just drive through anyway.
People doing the wrong thing need to be pulled up, but just stopping access is not the answer either.

If you had seen the damage that had been done by halfwits on motorbikes riding around the camping area and 4WDs tearing up the bush around the camping area as well as creating mud holes to drive through you would understand why they closed it

Last time i was there (passing through only) i said to Kerry why would anyone camp here, what a craphole of a place, there's a mudhole 30 mtrs long that stank and there were kids on bikes riding around everywhere and most of the shaded areas was where the mudhole was and where everyone went teararsing around, not too bright these campers that camp there.

The people that went camping at Limeburners and did this, only have themselves to blame and that goes for Dingo Dell too

Thats not good, but we also need dedicated places to ride bikes. I am a bike rider as well. They should not be tearing areas up around camp grounds, not good for anyone. Just closing off areas is not the answer. Closed for repairs is ok. Make the people doing the damage accountable.
