I used to sell Nissan (the reason I got in to selling cars) as I loved them, I'll be shot but still do like them.
Wouldn't work for a Landrover dealer in Adelaide as they are ***tards and there is no way I would want to be associuated with them. (Although they have now been rebadged and are no longer rover dealers. There is now only 1 dealer in the Adelaide Metro and I don't know enough about them otherwise I might be tempted to go back to work.... (stay at home Dad at the moment)
I dont post here - but here is my thoughts - most sales people at Landrover have no passion for the vehicles added to that they feel that anyone who does walk in must already be a Landrover nut in the 1st place and will know more about the vehicles than the salesman does.
Maybe Landrover Australia should send all sales people on national training. Having worked and sold landrovers in Africa - we had to have full Landrover driving courses as well as sales training before we were even allowed to talk to a customer, and then ongoing tech training and refresher courses, hence my passion for the brand. Landrover Australia could learn a lot from a 3rd world country on sales of landies..........

I would love to sell Land Rovers but don't like the idea of working every Saturday and I don't think I could deal with being crunched for deals by arrogant upstarts.

I had some really mixed experience with LR dealers, both in sales and servicing.
When I was thinking of buying a Freelander, I thought I give a chance to the local fellas, which in my case was Alto in Artarmon.
I was sniffing around their newly built building and a bit later sombody came to check me out. The bloke was all smiles and started to talk about the Rangie that was standing nearby. I said I was interested in the Land Rovers. The smile was scaled back a bit. Then, when it turned out I was after the Freelander not the Disco, he became a bit bored with the whole sales thing and wasn't that much interested anymore. I still got a better treatment than the family looking for a Defender. The Defenders were kept at the far back of the dealership, as if they were a bit ashamed of them.
Even a small sale is a sale to the salesman so when I seemed like a serious prospect, to make friends, he wanted to impress me how expensive their shiny new building was to build. Mate, I thought, I don't care if you sell from a barn, just offer me a decent price and treat me right! Ultimately, I as a customer, would have to pay for that expensive fit-out, anyway.
When it turned out that I won't sign on the dot, right there and then, he totally lost interest. Wouldn't even give a price just said something about how hot a sales item the Freelander was (I actually knew that they were struggling selling the Freelanders at the time) but he will try to give me a good price *when I'm serious*. Well, maybe some people just walk in with a plastic bagful of cash, but I needed to make some arrangements first. He also made it difficult with my trade-in, come back this time, that time he said. I went back a the said time but the guy doing the trade-in valuation wasn't there.
I did get a testdrive, though. The fellow came with me and was praising the Freelander, how good it was to drive around the suburbs, with the greatest feature being (in his mind) how easily the Freelander goes over speedhumps. Right...
When I was ready to buy I went back to give him a last chance, but "my guy" wasn't there and when the others at the dealership found out that I had talked to this fellow already, they wouldn't want to deal with me. "Come back when he is here." What the...? Of course, I didn't insist and I didn't go back.
Instead I went to another dealer, Trivett in Parramatta where I just wanted to check the place out first. It was late Sunday afternoon, close to shutting for the day. The salesman was nice, insisted that I take the car out for a ride even if I'm just interested but don't want to buy. But, I was serious and after the test ride he had a sale. He even stayed beyond closing time to wrap up the sale.
The Alto salesman called me 3 weeks later...
I had other similar experiences, but this story ends here. :-)
