Well I live in Blackburn...
For fun I drove my 98 defender and parked right in front of the dealership. It was a Friday around 2PM (my lunch time)
Being a Friday it is casual day at work so no tie and trousers etc. Which made it easy for me to crawl under the car to check clearance on the brake drum and chassis etc.
I thought this would at least provoke a response from the dealer sitting at his desk on a few metres away but nothing, so I opened and shut doors, hopped in the drivers seat, checked all the controls, checked rear seats and mounts, opened the bonnet to give the motor a quick once over. Opened the rear door for luggage space and head lining.
After hanging around now for at least 15 minutes I was sure someone was going to come. I had in mind to say I was just looking to upgrade my Defender but after all the fussing around I had done not one person wondered over so I just casually walked right out the front door.
When its time to upgrade I can't wait to see who really wants to sell a Deefer.
If any still exist, go to a regional dealer (maybe Wodonga) - they are much more interested in Defenders. I bought through Southern Cross in Toowoomba (not really an option for you I know) and they were very keen on trading my old Defender - they said it probably wouldn't have even made it onto the lot before being sold and even offered a realistic trade-in price since they knew they could shift it fast.
I still sold privately but still purchased through them for the new one. Now I wish I lived in Toowoomba so I could deal with them on a day-to-day basis as they seem generally more switched-on that either of the city dealerships in Brisbane.
